SERVICES
The Steady Child conducts comprehensive, psycho-educational evaluations for kindergarten through college-age students, including background and developmental history, overview of physical health, an overview of socioeconomic functioning, an assessment of cognitive functioning and processing, an assessment of academic achievement, an overview of adaptive behaviors, and an overview of your child's social and emotional functioning. The Steady Child can serve anyone within the state of Texas.
The assessment office will come to you! All evaluations will take place in a comfortable airstream trailer that can arrive near your front door.
Intellectual Quotient Evaluation
Are you curious about your or your child's cognitive abilities? The Intellectual Quotient Evaluation provides an overview of the examinee's psychological processes and general abilities obtained during the assessment. Areas reviewed and calculated within the general ability include Crystallized Intelligence, Fluid Reasoning, Working Memory, Visual Processing, and Processing Speed.

Psycho-Educational Evaluation
This evaluation assesses the root of your child's learning difficulty. A cognitive and academic achievement evaluation is conducted using norm-referenced test instruments to examine all significant cognitive processes aligned with C-H-C Theory and determine your child's strengths and weaknesses in the area of learning. In addition, an academic achievement evaluation will be given to ascertain academic ability in the areas of Basic Reading Skills, Reading Fluency, Reading Comprehension, Written Expression, Math Problem Solving, and Math Calculation. Academic language and communication skills will be determined through Listening Comprehension and Oral Expression subtests.
This evaluation will include:

One meeting through video-chat with the child's academic team to review the results of the evaluation

Dyslexia Evaluation
The Dyslexia evaluation includes the Psycho-Educational Evaluation with an additional assessment specific for Dyslexia. Following the guidelines indicated in the Dyslexia Handbook, your child will undergo additional testing in the areas of Spelling, Decoding (accuracy and rate), Reading Fluency (accuracy, rate, and prosody), Rapid Automatic Naming, Orthographic Processing, and Verbal Working Memory. Currently, the Texas Education Agency is recommending that Dyslexia is evaluated with a single pathway for identification under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). This requires the assessment personnel to conduct a thorough evaluation including all the components included in the Psycho-Educational Evaluation in addition to all areas of the Dyslexia evaluation.

Dysgraphia Evaluation
The Dysgraphia evaluation includes the Psycho-Educational Evaluation with an additional assessment specific for Dysgraphia. Following the guidelines indicated in the Dyslexia Handbook, your child will undergo additional testing in the areas of Letter Formation, Handwriting, Word/Sentence Dictation (timed and untimed), Writing Fluency (both accuracy and fluency), Orthographic Processing, Letter Retrieval, and Letter Matching.

One meeting with parent/guardian to review the results of the evaluation

Fee: $650 + $100(additional Dysgraphia areas)= $750*
*This price does not include travel fees. If the evaluation is outside of the lower Rio Grande Valley, then travel fees will be applied. All evaluations are to be conducted in the state of Texas.
